The EEPROM in the control module stores diagnostic trouble codes (DTC), diagnostic trouble code (DTC) counters and frozen values. If the EEPROM memory is malfunctioning then no information can be read from it. To check the condition of the memory it is necessary to simulate a fault. This stores a diagnostic trouble code (DTC). The memory can then be checked by reading off the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information.
