(LF) Response Code 2-2-3

LF. 223 Park/Neutral Position Switch (Automatic Transmission)

Response Code Information
Response code should be posted when gearshift lever is moved from D to N or vice versa. When gear shift lever is moved from D to N during driving, the cruise control is disengaged. Fault tracing begins with LF1.

LF1. Response Code Test

If response code 2-2-3 is posted:
If all response codes in DTM 2 are posted, proceed with: (M) Testing Vacuum System

If response code 2-2-3 is not posted:
Test of signal cable resistance LF2.

LF2. Test Of Signal Cable Resistance

Ignition off.
Disconnect control module.Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between control module socket terminal 3E and ground.
The ohmmeter should display about 0 ohm when gearshift lever is in P or N position. When gearshift lever is in any other position, the ohmmeter should display infinite resistence.

If ohmmeter displays about 0 ohm when gearshift lever is in all positions:
Check cable between control module terminal 3E and starter relay terminal 5 for short circuit to ground, according to QA3. (Q) Other Electrical Fault Tracing

If ohmmeter displays infinite resistance when gearshift lever is in all positions:
Test power supply to control module LF3.

LF3: Test Of Power Supply To Control Module

Control module disconnected.
Ignition on. Using a ohmmeter, measure the resistance between control module socket terminal 3E and ground.
Voltmeter should display battery voltag with the gearshift lever in the D-position and 0 volts with the gearshift lever in the N and P positions.

If readings are OK:
Control module connector test LF4.

If readings are not OK:
Check the cable between ignition lock and control module socket terminal 3E for breaks, according to QA2 use VIEW above.

If voltmeter displays battery voltage when gearshift lever is in N and P position:
Check the cable between ignition lock and control module socket terminal 3E for short circuit to supply, according to QA4.

LF4: Connector Test

Ignition off.Service control module socket terminal 3E and terminal 12 (A1/B) of multi-connector at A-post for contact resistance and oxidation, according to QA6, and for loose connections, according to QA5

Connect control module.
Ignition on.
Check whether response code 2-2-3 is posted.

If code is posted:
The response code was not posted because of poor contact in the control module connector.

If response code is not posted:
If no faults in the cables were detected when fault tracing has been completed, fault trace the PNP switch. If PNP switch is OK: Try a new control module.
