EFI-131 Engine speed (RPM) sensor, signal missing

Condition




Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) EFI-131 is stored if the engine control module (ECM) does not receive a signal from the engine speed (RPM) sensor for 10 engine revolutions.

Note! The polarity of the engine speed (RPM) sensor wiring is reversed in cars with a manual transmission with drilled holes in the flywheel rather than milled slots.

Substitute value
no fuel injection or ignition.

Possible source
- open-circuit in signal cable or ground lead
- short-circuit to ground or supply voltage in signal cable
- contact resistance in terminals
- defective engine speed (RPM) sensor.

Fault symptom[s]
- engine does not start
- engine cuts out.
