Signal missing. Permanent fault
EFI-212 Front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S), signal
Checking the signal cable (+), front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
- Ignition off.
- Wait approximately 150 seconds.
- Disconnect front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) (black connector).
Connect an ohmmeter between heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connector terminal 4 (engine control module (ECM) side) and ground.
The ohmmeter should read approximately 50 kohms.
OK - Checking the signal cable (+), front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
Not OK - Checking control module connector
-------------------------------------------------
Checking control module connector
- Ignition off.
- Front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) disconnected.
- Check control module connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
- Control module connected.

Checking front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) signal
- Ignition off.
- Connect the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
- Start the engine and idle it.
- Use the Volvo Scan Tool (ST) to read off the value from the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
The signal should rise above its average value, (0.45 V), and settle between 0.1 - 0.9 V within approximately 10 minutes.
OK - Checking for damage
The cause of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been loose connections in the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connector. Check that the pins in the connector are intact. Do not apply rust solvent spray or grease to the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connector. Then continue with Verification.
Not OK - Replacing component
Try a new front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Then continue with Verification.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows.
- Ignition off.
- Front and rear heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) connected.
- Control module connected.
- Disconnect the Volvo Scan Tool (ST) from the VIDA station and use it in stand-alone mode.
- Start the engine and idle it.
- Go into the Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) menu.
- Watch EFI-153 and EFI-212. Wait until the status of EFI-153 and EFI-212 switch to tested. This can take up to 15 minutes after the engine has been started.
- Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
This can take up to 15 minutes after the engine has been started.
If EFI-153 or EFI-212 are stored they should have intermittent status.
