Signal Missing. Permanent Fault

Signal missing. Permanent fault

EFI-223 Idle air control (IAC) valve opening, signal

Checking signal cable resistance to ground

- Ignition off.
- Wait for approximately 150 seconds (cars with immobilizer 245 seconds).
- Disconnect idle air control (IAC) valve.
Connect an ohmmeter between ground and idle air control (IAC) valve connector terminal 3.

The ohmmeter should read 10 - 20 kohms.

OK - Checking idle air control (IAC) valve

Not OK - Checking control module connector

-------------------------------------------------

Checking control module connector

- Ignition off.
- Idle air control (IAC) valve disconnected.
- Check control module connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
- Control module connected.
Connect an ohmmeter between ground and idle air control (IAC) valve connector terminal 3.

The ohmmeter should read 10 - 20 kohms.

OK - The cause of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been loose connections in the control module connector. Then continue with Verification.
Fault-tracing information

Not OK - Check cable between idle air control (IAC) valve terminal 3 and engine control module (ECM) #A11 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Then continue with Verification.

Checking idle air control (IAC) valve

- Ignition off.
- Idle air control (IAC) valve disconnected.
Connect an ohmmeter between idle air control (IAC) valve connector terminals 1 and 2.

- Read off value.
- Then connect an ohmmeter between idle air control (IAC) valve connector terminals 2 and 3.
- Read off value.

The ohmmeter should read 9 - 14 ohms at +20°C in both cases.

OK - The cause of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been loose connections in the idle air control (IAC) valve connector. Check connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
