Signal Too Low. Permanent Fault

Signal too low. Permanent fault

EFI-445 Pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump, signal.

Checking power cable

- Ignition off.
- Remove the power cable from relay.
Connect a voltmeter between relay connector A and ground.

The voltmeter should read battery voltage.

OK - Checking signal cable resistance

Not OK - There is an integrated fusible link in the cable between the battery and relay. If there is an open-circuit in this cable there is probably a short-circuit to ground in the circuit which caused the open-circuit. Check the relay and pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump before replacing the cable. Check cable between battery and pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump relay terminal A1 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Then continue with Verification.

Connection of break-out box to connector A (black)

- Switch off ignition.
- Disconnect ECM.

Note! The ECM must not be removed from the car until the main relay has interrupted the supply. This may take up to 150 seconds after the ignition has been switched off.

- Plug adapter 951 1351 ADAPTOR 86-PIN 951 1351 Adaptor 86-Pin into ECM base and connect break-out box 981 3190 Replaced by 9511428 981 3190 Replaced by 951 1428 to adapter.

- Switch off ignition.
- Switch off all power consumers, such as interior lighting and radio.

- Use ohmmeter to measure resistance between battery negative terminal and
- #13 (#A13) on break-out box
- #28 (#A28) on break-out box
- #42 (#A42) on break-out box

Instrument should indicate approx. 0 ohms in all cases.

OK - Resume fault tracing at point of interruption.
