Fault Programming In Key Code

Fault programming in key code

Read diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Note! Faults which cause diagnostic trouble code (DTC) IMM-225 to be stored can also cause diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) IMM-233, IMM-234 or IMM-235 to be stored. Read diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) as follows and select the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) which is stored.

Checking keys

Note! Check if there are several keys with transponders on the same key ring. The keys should hang free so that they do not affect the key being used.

Try to start the car with all the customer's keys.
One of the following alternatives can occur:
- 1 : Engine starts with all keys.
- 2 : The engine starts with at least one of the keys.
- 3 :The engine does not start.

Checking keys

Try to start the car with all the keys that the customer has.

Does the car start with all keys ?

Yes - Fault-tracing information

No - Programming keys

------------------------

Fault-tracing information
The control module has read and not approved a transponder code because it was not stored. That can be because of the following:
- There are several Volvo keys with transponders to the same car or other cars on the key ring. The control module reads the key code from the wrong key or a mixture of codes from several keys when attempting to start the car.
The keys should hang free so that they do not affect the key being used.
- Attempts have been made to start the car with a Volvo key which is already programmed to another generation 3 immobilizer.
- Attempts have been made to start the car with a Volvo key before it was programmed into the control module as an approved key to the car.
- Attempts have been made to start the car with a Volvo key that is not one of the approved keys for the car.
- The fault occurred because of temporary interference in the communication between the transponder and the control module.

Continue - FAULT FOUND

------------------------

Programming keys
Program the non approved keys according to Add a key Add A Key.
One of the following alternatives can occur:
1. The programming was successful, the key was not programmed into the control module memory earlier.
2. The Volvo Scan Tool (ST) displays the message:

KEY. CAN NOT BE
PROG. TO IMMO!
USE ANOTHER KEY!
THEN ENTER/EXIT

This means that the key is already programmed for another immobilizer system.
