Checking engine control module (ECM) type
Check that the engine control module (ECM) P/N to determine that the correct control module for the engine type that is in the car.

Is it the correct engine control module (ECM)?

Yes - Checking for a short-circuit to supply voltage

No - Replacing component

Replacing component
Install the new engine control module (ECM) with correct P/N.

Caution! The engine control module (ECM) must not be disconnected until at least 4 minutes after switching off the ignition and the engine cooling fan (FC) stopping.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

Continue - Verification

Checking for a short-circuit to supply voltage








- Ignition off.
- Disconnect engine control module (ECM)

Caution! The engine control module (ECM) must not be disconnected until at least 4 minutes after switching off the ignition and the engine cooling fan (FC) stopping.

- Disconnect immobilizer control module. Replacing the control module Replacing the Control Module.
- Connect adapter box 981 3194 Replaced by 9511495 981 3194 Replaced by 951 1495 and breakout box 981 3190 Replaced by 9511428 981 3190 Replaced by 951 1428 according to Connecting the breakout box Connecting the Breakout Box.
Check cable between breakout box terminal #50(#4) and engine control module (ECM) #B36 on engines with control module M4.4 and MSA 15.7 for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check cable between breakout box terminal #48(#2) and engine control module (ECM) #B5 on engines with control module Fenix 5.2 for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.









Continue - Checking open-circuit/oxidation

Check cable between breakout box terminal #50(#4) and engine control module (ECM) #B36 on engines with control module M4.4 and MSA 15.7 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check cable between breakout box terminal #48(#2) and engine control module (ECM) #B5 on engines control module Fenix 5.2 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check ground terminals and switches for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

Read diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).





Is the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) still stored?

Yes - Select engine control module (ECM)

No - Verification

- Ignition on.
This can be done by reading the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Yes - Replacing immobilizer control module

No - Replacing engine control module (ECM)

- Ignition on.
This can be done by reading the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).





Has communication with the engine control module (ECM) been established?

Yes - Replacing immobilizer control module

No - Replacing engine control module (ECM)

- Ignition on.
This can be done by reading the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).





Has communication with the engine control module (ECM) been established?

Yes - Replacing immobilizer control module

No - Replacing engine control module (ECM)

Replacing immobilizer control module
Try a new immobilizer control module according to Replacing the control module Replacing the Control Module and initiate according to Initiating a new immobilizer control module Initiating A New Immobilizer Control Module.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

Try a new engine control module (ECM).
