Short-Circuit Or Capacitance Too High
Short-circuit or capacitance too high
Checking DTCs and type of fault
Hint: Before removing components, Volvo System Tester must be used to check if the fault is permanent or intermittent.
Erase diagnostic trouble codes

-------------------------------------------------
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-211 could be erased
The fault is permanent. The fault may be intermittent. Try to provoke the intermittent fault at each work procedure during continued fault-tracing by shaking the connectors and cables, also turn the steering wheel during measurement.

- Wait at least 10 seconds.
Read off diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
It must not be possible to erase DTC SRS-211 if the fault is permanent.
Can DTC SRS-211 be erased?
Yes - Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-211 could be erased
No - Removal of the steering wheel module

- Make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio installed.
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect battery negative lead.
- Remove steering wheel module in accordance with Steering wheel module, steering wheel and contact reel, replacement Airbag Steering Wheel Module, Steering Wheel and Contact Reel Replacement.
Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected non-deployed steering wheel module. This could deploy the airbag.
Caution! Put the steering wheel module with its metal side (back) down in a protected place (in the cargo compartment for example).

Checking DTCs with the steering wheel module replaced with special tool T998 8695
- Connect the special tool to the SRS ignition cable's ignitor connector: 998 8695 TEST DEVICE 998 8695 Test Device
Caution! The special tool must be checked and must be fault free. If the tool is damaged, the diagnostic readings will be incorrect. This will make fault-tracing harder.
- Ignition on.
- Connect the battery's negative lead.
Erase the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

Checking resistance in the contact reel
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect the connector from the contact reel.
- Connect an ohmmeter between the connector pins in the part of the connector (part A in image) that goes to the contact reel.
Caution! Do not damage the terminals in the connector.
The ohmmeter should read infinite resistance.
- Even if the ohmmeter reading is OK, there may still be an intermittent fault in the contact reel.
Repeat resistance measurement and at the same time turn the steering wheel to full lock in both directions.
The ohmmeter should show infinite resistance in all steering wheel positions.
Is the value OK?
OK - Checking resistance in the igniter cable and sensor module
Not OK - Replacing a component

Replacing a component
If the ohmmeter shows 0 ohms, there is a short-circuit in the contact reel.
If the ohmmeter shows 2-3 ohms there is a short-circuit in the integrated capacitor in the SRS ignition cable's connector ignitor.
