New routing of wiring for 02 sensors

Reference: This Service Bulletin laces the previous Service Bulletin 2-25-0010 from June 1999, which should be discarded.

Background:

To prevent contamination from reaching the probe's reference air, new routing has been developed for sensor wiring.

If one oxygen sensor is replaced, the new adapter wiring must be installed for both sensors.

Replacing the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)

MOUNTING HEATED 02 SENSOR

Heated 02 sensor, mounting

Preparation


Turbocharged engines

Remove:

- Fresh air intake hose between air cleaner (ACL) housing and turbocharger (TC).





Naturally aspirated engines

Remove:

- the preheating hose.

Removing/installing heated 02 sensor





Remove the front heated O2sensor. Use tool no. 9995543

Install a new heated 02 sensor.

Note! AWD. Replace front 02 sensor from the engine compartment.

Installing adapter wiring

Note! The illustrations only illustrate one of the adapter wiring systems, but the same method applies to both front and rear 02 sensor.





When replacing the heated O2sensor adapter wiring (A), which is included in the kit, should be installed between the existing cable harness and the heated 02 sensor.

Form the adapter wiring (A) into a loop. Install a tie strap as illustrated.

Note! Ensure that the ends (B) of the adapter wiring protective sheath point downwards so that moisture does not gather in the protective sheath.





This illustration displays a late version of the heated 02 sensor cable bracket. (Early type bracket is shown in the next step.)

On AWD cars the cable for the front heated 02 sensor should be routed over the fresh air intake hose.

Note! Ensure that the ends of the adapter wiring protective sheath point downwards so that moisture does not gather in the protective sheath.

Installing fresh air intake hose:

Turbocharged engines





Install fresh air intake hose.

Naturally aspirated engines

Install preheating hose.

Erase diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

Test drive and check that no new diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been stored.
