Fault-Tracing Information

ENGINE DOES NOT START





Trouble Code Condition(s)
- Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) absent
- Starter motor is working.
- Timing belt intact.
- Fault is permanent.

Possible Source(s)

Fuel Pump:
- Open-circuit in fuel pump (FP) relay ground lead, signal cable or power cable.
- Short-circuit to ground or supply voltage in fuel pump relay signal cable.
- Open-circuit in fuel pump ground lead or power cable.
- Contact resistance in terminals and ground terminals.
- Defective fuel pump relay or fuel pump.





Engine Speed Sensor:
- Open-circuit in ground lead or signal cable.
- Short-circuit to ground or supply voltage in signal cable.
- Contact resistance in terminals.
- Defective engine speed (RPM) sensor.





Camshaft Position Sensor:
- Short-circuit to ground or supply voltage in signal cable.
- Open-circuit in ground lead, signal cable or power cable.
- Contact resistance in terminals.
- Defective camshaft position (CMP) sensor.





Ignition Discharge Module:
- Open-circuit in ignition discharge module (IDM) ground lead, signal cable or power cable
- Short-circuit to ground or supply voltage in ignition discharge module signal cable
- Contact resistance in terminals and ground terminals
- Defective or flashover in ignition discharge module/ignition coil, spark plugs, ignition leads, rotor or distributor cap.





Mass Air Flow Sensor:
- Open-circuit in power ground cable, signal ground cable, signal cable or power cable.
- Short-circuit to ground or supply voltage in signal cable.
- Damaged or loose intake hoses between mass air flow. (MAF) sensor and throttle body (TB).
- Contact resistance in terminals.
- Defective mass air flow sensor.





Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor:
- Contact resistance in terminals.
- Defective engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.

Fuel Pressure:
- Faulty fuel pressure.
