Downshift Switch: Service and Repair






1. Preparations
- Remove:
Throttle control cover (A)
Locking clip (B) on cable tensioner
Unhook cable from throttle control pulley (C) and remove it from the bracket.
Remove kickdown switch (D).





2. Remove sound insulation on driver side.
- For cars with SRS:
- Remove knee bolster.





3. Removal
- Detach throttle cable from Accelerator Pedal (AP)
- Free the latch lugs that hold the kickdown switch in place by pushing a screwdriver into the opening in cowl-panel.
Push out switch with throttle cable.
- From the engine compartment side, make sure no remnants of the latch lugs remain between the insulation and cowl-panel.





4. Reinstallation
- Installation of new throttle cable/kickdown switch
- Ensure that connector is correctly positioned upright.
- Make sure latch lugs engage cowl-panel.





5. Reattach throttle cable to AP
- Make sure rubber cushion is in place in the hole on AP.
- Use retainer in AP to fasten cable.
Make sure bead on the end of cable is anchored at the bottom of the retainer.
- Cars with SRS:
Replace knee bolster, tighten to: 20 Nm.
Reinstall sound insulation pad





6. Reinstall connector on kickdown switch
- Reinstall locking clip on cable tensioner
- Make sure cable is positioned correctly in the engine compartment.
- Firmly latch cable onto throttle control pulley
- Insert a 3.5 mm (0.14 inch) spacer between the throttle pulley idle stop and the bracket stop.
- Make sure locking clip is positioned firmly against bracket.
Adjust cable until it is under light tension.





7. Remove spacer Remove locking clip and replace cable tensioner in bracket with locking clip
- Reinstall cover
8. Checking DTCs
- Using a suitable scan tool, check that DTCs have been cleared.
