Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair



Replacing dashboard

Remove

Note! If the car is equipped with SRS refer to Restraint Systems - Air Bag Systems - Service Precautions Service Precautions






Remove:






- battery negative lead.
- steering wheel impact pad and screw. Mark up steering wheel position.
- steering wheel.
- steering wheel covers.
- slip ring.
- turn signal and windshield wiper control holder (see illustration).
- combined instrument panel (2 screws). Disconnect connector.






- ashtray and holder. Press up catch under ashtray.
- cigarette lighter and center console locker (2 screws under plastic cover).






- frame around gear selector lever and parking brake.
- Disconnect connector.
- rear ashtray and lighting.
- screws under plastic cover at the bottom of the center console locker.
- parking brake cover.






(on driver's side):
- panel under dashboard (3 screws).
- air hose to steering column vent.
- side panel on cowl side.
- A-pillar panel (see Replacing 4-door).






Pull down carpet at transmission tunnel.
- screw at front of side panel.
- screw at rear of side panel.






- screw under steering column.
- A-pillar bracket screw.
Disconnect all switch and dashboard lighting connectors.

(on passenger side):






- panel under glove compartment (3 retaining clips).
- glove compartment (4 screws).
- glove compartment lighting.
- side panel on cowl side.
- A-pillar panel (see Replacing 4-door).






Pull down carpet on passenger side.
- screw at front of side panel.
- screws at rear of side panel.
- radio compartment. Press forward inside wall and remove screw.
- screws holding side panels in radio compartment bracket (both sides).
- panels.






- panels around heater controls.
- radio compartment brackets.
- control panel.
Remove central electrical unit.
- center dashboard vent.
- screw holding air mixing chamber.
- all air ducts to dashboard vents and air mixing chamber.






Disconnect cable harnesses from dashboard; remove clips holding tie straps.

Note! Remove the sensor on the dashboard on cars with ECC.

Lift out dashboard

Transfer to new dashboard:
- front guide clips.
- defroster vents.
- dashboard vents (x 2)
- lighting control panel.
- panel above glove compartment.
- nuts (x 6).
- molding.

Install:






- Position dashboard.
- Ensure that the foam rubber sleeve seals the defroster vent from the heater.
- screws in A-pillars brackets on both sides.
- screw under steering column.






- Hang up and secure cable harnesses.
- air ducts in dashboard vents.
- air mixture chamber.
- center dashboard vent.
Connect ducts.






- central electrical unit.
- heater control panel.
- radio compartment bracket.
- transmission tunnel side panels.






- parking brake cover.
- ashtray holder. Connect lighting.
- ashtray.
- frame for gear selector lever and parking brake. Connect connector.






- radio compartment and rear wall (one screw).
- center console locker with cover and cigarette lighter (2 screws).
- ashtray with holder.






- combined instrument panel. Connect connectors.
- slip ring with turn indicator and windshield wiper holder.
- steering column covers.
- heater control panel.
- switch connectors.
- steering wheel and airbag.






(driver's side:)
- side panel on cowl side.
- panel under dashboard.
- A-pillar panel
- grab handle mountings.






(passenger side:)
- side panel by cowl side.
- glove compartment. Connect lighting.
- panel under glove compartment.
- A-pillar panel.
- grab handle mountings.
