Backrest Upholstery


WARNING: Seats with SIPS bag must always have the transport safety device installed in order to avoid accidentally activating the system when working on the seat.

Special tools: 340 6731, 115 8962

Removing

Preparations
- Make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio is installed.
- Disconnect battery negative lead.
- Cars with SIPS airbag: install the safety device for the SIPS bag.
- Remove seat from car.

Lowering seatback




- Use crank 340 6731 to manually lower the seatback.
- Insert crank through hole in cover panel on side of seat.
- Lower seatback as far as possible.

Removal of knob and cover panels




- Remove lumbar adjustment knob. Unscrew in a counter-clockwise direction until stop. Then continue unscrewing counter-clockwise while pulling firmly outwards.
- Remove the covers for the drive gears.

Removal of upholstery




- Cut off clamping hooks (use cutting nippers) which hold trim under seatback.
- Then remove all the clamping hooks between the upholstery and the seat padding.

Reinstalling




Reinstall in reverse order.

Use special pliers P/N 115 8962 for fastening the clamping hooks.

- Start attaching clamping hooks at the middle of the backrest between the upholstery and the padding.
- Gradually pull down the upholstery over the seat.
- Secure clamping hooks in the lower edge.

Finishing off
- Reinstall seat in car.
- Cars with SIPS airbag: remove the safety device.
- Replace battery negative lead.
