Right and Left Seatback Cables

WARNING: Seats with SIPS bag must always have the transport safety device installed in order to avoid accidentally activating the system when working on the seat.


Preparations
- Make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio is installed.
- Remove battery negative lead.
- Cars with SIPS airbag: install the safety device for the SIPS bag.
- Remove seat from car.

Removal of upholstery
- Remove backrest upholstery
- Remove impact protection from the backrest frame.

CAUTION Cars with SIPS airbag: Take care not to damage the SIPS airbag ignition cable.

Removing the lumbar support




- Remove plastic holder for lumbar support and remove the lumbar support.

Removal of cable




- The nut which holds lower motor bracket to seatback frame.
- The motor
- The drive cable from the motor and from the drive gear.

Reinstalling




- Replace drive cables in motor and drive gear.
- Tighten screw for cable locking plate (1).
- Work motor upper bracket into hole in frame.
- Tighten nut which holds lower bracket in seatback frame.

Securing drive cable
- Hold the upper length of cable in place using a tie-strap or clamp between lumbar support and padding. This is to prevent noise caused by cable contacting upholstery and padding.

Reinstalling




Install:
- Replace plastic holder for lumbar support
- Attach spring holder inside upholstery (if it has been detached).
- When installing the impact protection: check that the impact protection is not contacting the SIPS airbag's gas generator.
- Install the upholstery on the backrest
- Reinstall seat in car.
- Cars with SIPS airbag: remove the safety device.
- Replace battery negative lead.
