A/C System Seal Installation

- If replacing the compressor, the new unit with the new connection fittings and seals must be used. Refer to the Modifications for New Type of Seals. Service and Repair

- Ensure that all open ends are sealed when installing unit.
Modification Of Earlier Cars For New Type Of Seals - Compressor Installation
1. Slacken guard plate retaining bolts (two) slightly. Do not retighten plate until compressor is in position and pipes are to be reconnected.
2. Install compressor and bracket.
NOTE: Rear bolts must be unscrewed as far as possible otherwise it will not be possible to install compressor in position.
3. Install front mounting bolts and tighten all bolts.
4. Install alternator lower bolt and nut. Tighten upper bolt.
5. Install/reconnect:
- Drive belt.
- Electromagnetic clutch connector (green lead).
6. Install condenser from underneath.
NOTE: Ensure that the two rubber bushings in the cross-member are in place when installing the condenser.
7. Insert bolts securing condenser to radiator.
8. Reconnect/install:
- Pressostat connectors.
- Air cleaner intake.
- Air baffles.
9. Install cover panel and grille.
10. Reconnect:
- (1) compressor (low and high pressure connections). Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft lb).
- (2) condenser (low and high pressure connections). Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft lb).
- (3) air receiver. Tighten to 45 Nm (33 ft lb).
- (4) evaporator. Tighten to 12 Nm (8.9 ft lb).
11. Install/reconnect:
- Hose bracket under compressor.
- Pipe retaining clips.
- Expansion tank hose to branch on cylinder block. Remove hose clamp. Check coolant level and top up as required.
12. Install/reconnect:
- Clip (1) securing pipe to condenser upper connection.
- Compressor high and low-pressure hoses (2).
13. Install:
- Ambient temperature sensor (1).
- Splashguard under radiator.
- Engine cover.
14. Reconnect battery ground lead.
15. Top up refrigerant in A/C system. Refer to the Drainage and Recycling, Checking A/C. Service and Repair
