Cleaning and Greasing Engine Control Module Connector
- Ignition OFF.
- Wait for 150 seconds.
- Remove engine control module (ECM).
- Check engine control module connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
- Reinstall engine control module.
- Proceed to: Cleaning and Greasing Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Connector section below.
Cleaning and Greasing Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Connector
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
- Check engine coolant temperature sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
- Connect the engine coolant temperature sensor.
- Proceed to: Checking Engine Coolant Temperature section below.
Checking Engine Coolant Temperature
- Ignition ON.
- Go into scrolling values.
- Check that the engine coolant temperature sensor reading is within permitted limits.
- Engine coolant temperature should be above +75°C (+167°F) when the engine is at operating temperature, the upper radiator hose should be hot.
If reading is OK:

If reading is incorrect:
^ Try a new engine coolant temperature sensor.

Cleaning and Greasing the Camshaft Position Sensor Connector
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor.
- Check camshaft position sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
- Connect the camshaft position sensor.
- Proceed to: Checking Engine Speed Sensor section below.
Checking Engine Speed Sensor
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the engine speed (RPM) sensor.
- Connect a voltmeter between engine speed sensor connector terminals 1 and 2 (engine control module side).
- The ohmmeter should read 200 - 500 ohms depending on engine temperature.
If reading is OK:

If reading is incorrect:
^ Try a new engine speed sensor.

- Ignition OFF.
- Engine speed sensor disconnected.
- Check engine speed sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
- Connect engine speed sensor.
- Proceed to: Cleaning and Greasing Ignition Discharge Module Connectors section below.
Cleaning and Greasing Ignition Discharge Module Connectors
- Ignition OFF.
- Check both ignition discharge module connectors for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
- Connect ignition discharge modules.
- Proceed to: Cleaning and Greasing Ignition Discharge Module Ground Terminals section below.
Cleaning and Greasing Ignition Discharge Module Ground Terminals
- Ignition OFF.
- Check ignition discharge module ground terminals for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
- Proceed to: Cleaning and Greasing Ignition Coil Connectors section below.
Cleaning and Greasing Ignition Coil Connectors
- Ignition OFF.
- Check all ignition coils connectors for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
- Connect all ignition coils.
- Proceed to: Replacing Spark Plugs.
