Removing Damaged Steering Wheel Module Screws
NOTE: The steering wheel module should be replaced in accordance with.Strng Wheel Module, Strng Wheel,, Contact Reel - Replacement Carry out the procedure described here only if the screws holding the steering wheel module cannot be removed in the normal way (if the screw heads are damaged or are turning in the airbag holder for example).
This procedure describes how to drill out the retaining screws. This method involves cutting up the protective airbag cover and means that the airbag must be scrapped.
Preparations:
- Make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio installed.
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect battery negative lead.
- Switch ignition to position I so that the steering wheel lock is disengaged.
Opening And Removing Airbag
- Cut approx. 0.2" deep along the joins in the cover (A).
- Open the flaps.
- Pull the airbag from the cover.
Exposing Nut On Screw
- Fold the airbag to one side to expose the nut (B).
Drilling Screw Out Of Nut
- Center punch the screw (C).
- Drill a hole with a 2 mm diameter bit.
- Drill out the screw with a 6 mm diameter bit.
Removing Steering Wheel Module
Remove:
