Replacement

Secure The SIPS Bag In The Left Front Seat

WARNING: The SIPS-bag in the front seat must be secured before starting work. Use the transport safety device on the inside of the seat compartment cover on a SIPS seat. Never apply external force to side of seat.




- Remove cover from seat compartment.
- Remove the transport safety device from the holder on the inside of the cover. (On all SIPS seats.)




- Install the transport safety device on the SIPS sensor.

Removal Of Left Front Seat




- With seat as far forward as possible.
- Remove panels and 2 mounting bolts (14 mm) from the rear edge of the seat rails.
- With seat as far back as possible.
- Remove cover from sill trim panel (1 x Torx 25).
- Remove 2 mounting bolts (14 mm) from the front edge of the seat rails.
- Make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio installed.




- Ignition off.




- Disconnect battery negative lead.




- Disconnect the connectors from the seat (under the seat by the front edge of the seat rail).




- Pull the seat back until it stops.
- Then push it forward approx. 0.2".
- Lift the seat straight up so that the guide pins on the underside of the seat rails are freed from their holes in the floor then tip the seat backwards.

Removal Of Sensor Module

WARNING: The battery must not be connected when the sensor module is removed or replaced.




- Lift back a corner of floor carpet.
- Remove screws (3 x Torx 30) from sensor module.
- Lift up sensor module.




- Remove the sensor module connector by pressing in latch (1) and folding forward the clip (2).
- Then remove the connector from the sensor module following the arrow (3) in the figure.





CAUTION: Never touch the sensor module pins. There is a risk of static discharge which could damage the sensor module.

Installing Sensor Module





CAUTION: Never touch the sensor module pins. There is a risk of static discharge which could damage the sensor module.

WARNING: The battery must not be connected when the sensor module is removed or replaced.




- Install the sensor module connector following the arrow (1) in the figure.
- Lock the sensor module connector in place by folding clip (2) back until it engages the latch.
This should be done before the sensor module is fixed in place.




- Install sensor module (3 x Torx 30).
Sensor module tightening torque = 7.4 ft lbs.

CAUTION:
- The screws have pressed sheet metal threads and must be positioned so that the existing thread is not damaged. Take care not to damage the thread when installing screws.

- Use the old screws! When using replacement screws use a type approved for connection to ground.

- It is important that the sensor module be securely mounted onto the bodywork if the sensor module is to operate properly. If the sensor module is not properly fixed to the car body it will only register its own deceleration, not the deceleration from the beginning of the collision.

- Because the sensor module is grounded through the ground terminal attached to one of the mounting screws, it is essential to ensure good contact between the mounting screws and the bodywork.

Fold back floor carpet.

Installing Front Seat




- Tip back the seat and locate the seat rail guide pins in the "keyholes" in the floor.




- Connect the seat connectors (under the front edge of the seat).

WARNING: Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.




- Switch the ignition to position II.




- Connect battery negative lead.




- With seat as far back as possible.
- Install 2 mounting bolts (14 mm) in the front edge of the seat rails.
Seat rail tightening torque = 33 ft lbs.
- Install sill trim panel cover (1 x Torx 25).
- With seat as far forward as possible.
- Install 2 mounting bolts (14 mm) and panels in the rear edge of the seat rails.
Seat rail tightening torque = 33 ft lbs.

Unsecure The SIPS Bag In The Front Seat

NOTE: The front seat SIPS-bag should be Unsecured after completing work. Remove the transport safety device from the SIPS sensor. Never apply external force to side of seat.




- Remove the transport safety device from the SIPS sensor.
- Install the transport safety device in the holder on the inside of the cover.
- Reinstall the cover on the seat compartment.

Final Check
Check any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
