Restraints and Safety Systems: Service Precautions
SRS Warning LabelsDecals, located in the following positions, call attention to the fact that the car is equipped with SRS and that it requires special treatment.
On the windshield
Shows that the car is equipped with SRS.
The SRS decal is combined with a SIPS-bag decal.
On B-post
Steering wheel module/passenger module
Airbag modules must be inspected or replaced after a specified period. The SRS label on the B-post, shows the year and month for the inspection of the steering wheel module (driver airbag) and the passenger module (passenger airbag).
Replacing steering wheel module/passenger module airbag
When replacing the steering wheel module/passenger module airbag the decal with year and month must be replaced with the decal included with the new steering wheel module/passenger module.
The figure shows the replacement of the steering wheel module date decal.
On B-post
Pyrotechnical seat belt tensioner
The SRS decal on the B-post shows that the pyrotechnical seat belt tensioner must be inspected or replaced 10 years after its date of manufacture.
On the side of the dashboard (passenger side)
This label is a warning not to put a child seat on the front passenger seat.
CAUTION: Never put a child seat on the front passenger seat if the car is equipped with an SRS (Airbag) on the passenger side.
In the sun visors
The decal is located on the inside of the sun visor.
To avoid serious injury:
^ For maximum safety protection in all types of crashes you must always wear your safety belt.
^ Do not install rearward-facing child seats in any front passenger seat position.
^ Do not sit or lean unnecessarily close to the air bag.
^ Do not place any objects over the air bag or between the air bag and yourself.
(On the glove box) if the passenger module airbag is disconnected
Decal located on the top right of the glove box lid shows that the passenger module airbag is disconnected.
NOTE: The passenger airbag module SRS ignition cable can be disconnected in accordance with the car owner's wishes in markets where this does not conflict with statutory requirements. This allows a rear-facing child seat to be placed on the front passenger seat. To disconnect and connect the passenger module airbag SRS ignition cable, follow the instruction in Service Bulletin 8-88-919.
The four-language decal is used in all markets (except Sweden)
The Swedish language decal is used in the Nordic countries (Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic and Finnish markets) and is located immediately below the four-language decal.
In the engine compartment, on the suspension turret and the steering column junction
Never remove the steering column or steering gear without first locking the contact reel and removing the steering wheel.
