Downshift Switch: Service and Repair






Kickdown Switch/Throttle Cable, Replacement
- Remove cover A over TB.
- Remove spring clip B on cable tensioner.
- Unhook cable from TB pulley C and remove from bracket.
- Remove connector D from kickdown switch.





- Remove soundproofing panel A on driver's side.

NOTE: Cars with SRS only: Remove knee bolster B.





- Remove TCM from bracket.
- Carefully pry bracket away from catch with screwdriver.
- Withdraw TCM downward from bracket.

NOTE: Illustration shows location on earlier models.

- Unhook cable from AR.
- Press out cable from inside of firewall with screwdriver to release locking tabs behind cable grommet.





- Prepare cable grommet
- Squeeze and wrap a few turns of electrical tape around grommet.
- Cut tape about 4 inches from grommet.




Installation
- Install cable with kickdown switch terminal pins facing straight.
- Ensure that cable tags grip inside of firewall panel securely.
- Pull off tape around grommet and check that grommet is seated against soundproofing on panel.
- Ensure that rubber stop is in place in AP lug.
- Hook cable and retainer onto AP, ensuring that ball on cable end is seated in bottom of retainer.





- Mount connector on kickdown switch.
- Install spring clip on cable adjuster. Hook cable onto TB pulley.
- Install 3.5 mm shim between TB pulley CTP stop, ensuring that spring clip is seated against bracket, and adjust cable to light tension.





- Remove shim.
Remove spring clip and install cable adjuster in bracket with clip.
- Install TB cover.





- Install TCM.
- Mount TCM on bracket, ensuring that locking tabs engage with clearly audible snap.
- Check that cable is not taut.

NOTE: Illustration shows location on earlier models. Following point applies only to cars with SRS.





- Install knee bolster B.

NOTE: Following point applies to all cars.

- Install soundproofing panel A.
- Erase DTCs (if any).
- Connect Volvo ST to DLC and erase DTCs (if any). DTC 1-1-1 should be displayed on completion of operation.
