Fuel Consumption Signal-Signal Missing
NOTE: For steps ZA1 - ZA5 and ZB1 - ZB6, which are referred to in the following information, Other Electrical Fault Tracing (ZA steps will be found under "Permanent Faults" and ZB steps will be found under "Intermittent Faults".)
LB1 Status Check:
- Start engine.
- Go into scrolling values and read off the fuel consumption signal. Is the reading greater than 0 pulses per second?
No: LB2
Yes: LB4
LB2 Checking Cables:
Check cable between engine control module (ECM) # B39 and combined instrument panel # A9 for an open-circuit according to ZA2, a short-circuit to ground according to ZA3 and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to ZA3. Check cable connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to ZA5. Then continue with LB3.
NOTE: For further information about the circuit, see Wiring Diagram.
LB3 Verification:
After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows:
- Ignition off.
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.
- Start engine.
- Go into scrolling values.
- Read off the fuel consumption signal. Is the reading greater than 0 pulses per second?
No: Fault not found
Yes: Fault corrected
LB4 Intermittent Fault, Signal Faulty:
Check cable between engine control module (ECM) # B39 and combined instrument panel # A9 for an open-circuit according to ZB2, a short-circuit to ground according to ZB3 and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to ZB4. Check cable connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to ZB6.
