Signal Too High. Intermittent Fault
Checking Power Cable
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect throttle position (TP) sensor.
- Ignition on.
- Connect a voltmeter between throttle position sensor connector terminal 2 and ground.
- The voltmeter should read approx. 5 Volts.
If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to test step below.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Check cable between throttle position sensor terminal 2 and engine control module (ECM) # A15 for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Checking Cables And Terminals
- Check throttle position sensor and engine control module connectors for loose connections, contact resistance and oxidation.
- Check cable between throttle position sensor terminal 3 and control module # A16 for an intermittent open-circuit or an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage.
- Check cable between throttle position sensor terminal 1 and engine control module # A18 for an intermittent open-circuit.
Then proceed to test step below.
Fault-tracing Information
For intermittent faults fault-tracing is not followed by a verification because the fault is not present at this moment.
- Do you want to repeat fault-tracing?
Yes:
^ Return to Checking Power Cable section above.
No:
^ Operation done
