Signal Missing. Permanent Fault

Checking power cable
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect connector from EVAP canister shut-off valve.
- ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between EVAP canister shut-off valve connector terminal 1 and ground.

The voltmeter should read battery voltage.

If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to next step below.

If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to Checking for an open-circuit section below.

Checking EVAP canister shut-off valve
- Ignition off.
Connect an ohmmeter between EVAP canister shut-off valve terminals 1 and 2.

The ohmmeter should read 14 - 20 ohms.

If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to Checking the signal cable section below.

If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to Replacing component section below.

Checking for an open-circuit
Check power cable between EVAP canister shut-off valve terminal 1 and main relay (2/32) for an open-circuit.

Then continue with:
^ Proceed to Verification section below.

^ Checking the signal cable
- Ignition off.
- Connect breakout box and check ground terminals. Connect an ohmmeter between terminal #19 (B19) on the breakout box and EVAP canister shut-off valve connector terminal 2.

The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms.

If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to Checking for contact resistance and oxidation section below.

If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to Checking for an open-circuit section below.

Replacing component
Try a new EVAP canister shut-off valve. See: Emission Control Systems / Leak Detection Valve.

Then continue with:
^ Verification section below.

Checking for contact resistance and oxidation
The cause of fault has been poor contact in the engine control module (ECM) and/or the EVAP canister shut-off valve connectors.
Check connectors for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.

Then continue with:
^ Verification section below.

Checking for an open-circuit
Check cable between EVAP canister shut-off valve terminal 2 and engine control module (ECM) #B19 for an open-circuit.

Then continue with:
^ Proceed to next step below.

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows:

- Ignition off.
- EVAP canister shut-off valve and engine control module (ECM) connected.
- Ignition on.
Activate EVAP canister shut-off valve. See: Activating Components / Functions section.
The EVAP canister shut-off valve clicks when it is activated.

Is the EVAP canister shut-off valve working?

Yes:
^ Fault corrected

No:
^ Fault not found
