Cooling System
The cooling system differs from those of other five cylinder units in the following respects:
- The radiator (1) is larger and has a higher cooling capacity.
- An engine oil cooler (2) has been built into the right radiator tank. In this oil flows through a series of flat passages surrounded by coolant.
- Connections for TC water cooling have been added (3)
- The climate control system heater hoses (4) are routed differently to save space.

The TC cooling inlet pipe is connected to one of the coldest points in the cooling system. Coolant continues to circulate through the TC after the engine has been switched off. This heats the coolant making it rise towards the expansion tank and allows colder coolant to enter through the inlet pipe. Circulation continues until temperature differences have been equalized.

The left tank of the radiator contains the automatic transmission cooler which has a similar design.

Radiator thickness has been increased from 32 to 42 mm.

The cooling system holds about 7.0 liters, about 0.2 liters less than other five cylinder engines because of the space taken by the engine oil cooler.
