Checking For Noise
Materials which can be used to prevent noise:- Teflon tape, P/N 116 1410-4
- Felt tape, P/N 353 7456-0
Below is a list of possible sources of noise:
1. Backrest hinge mounting screw
2. Drive in seat and backrest
3. Seat rail
4. Upholstery and plastic components

FFA2 Backrest hinge mounting screw
If noise is heard when front edge height adjuster is in its lowest position and rear edge height adjuster moves downwards noise probably arises from seatback front mounting screw chafing against seat frame.
- Replace the mounting screw with a type M10 x 20 (P/N 946441-3) and washer to BRB 10.5 x 22 x 2 (P/N 960148-5)
Then continue with:

FFA3 Drive in seat and backrest
Motors
- Test at other positions on drive cable.
If noise persists, try a new motor.
Drive cables
- Test by injecting grease 116 1236-3 or 116 1417-9 into the cable mounting.
- Try changing the position of the cable.
If the noise persists, try a new drive cable In accordance with
- HHG. Right cable to seat center motor.
- HHH. Left cable to seat center motor.
- HHN. Right and left seatback cables.
- HHI. Right cable to seat rear motor.
- HHF. Right cable to seat front motor.
Drive gears
Noise from the drive gears may be due to lack of grease.
- Remove drive gear.
- Take off the cover and fill with grease 116 1236-3 or 116 1417-9.
If the noise persists, try with a new drive gear.
Then continue with:
- Operation done
FFA4 Seat rail
- First check drive gears and drive cables.
Noise from the seat rail can originate in the guide lugs at the "keyholes".
- Remove seat from car.
- Work a shrink tube section over the guide lug upper section.
- Heat the tube with a hot-air gun.
The noise can also be caused by the front mounting bolt on the inner seat rail.
- Work a piece of shrink tubing over unthreaded section of front bolt.
- Heat the tube with a hot-air gun.
A loud "creaking" noise can originate from the joint between the U-profile and the seat rail.
Try a new seat rail.
Then continue with:
- Operation done
FFA5 Upholstery and plastic components
A squeaking noise can come from the upholstery rubbing on plastic components. This is especially the case with seats upholstered in vinyl or leather.
To prevent this noise, teflon or felt tape can be glued to the following components:
- Seat side compartment upper surface, contact surface between compartment and seat cushion.
- Inside the lumbar adjustment controls cover.
- Inside the seat belt tensioner.
- Backrest hinge.
Then continue with:
