Passenger Module Replacement
Preparations
- Make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio installed.
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect battery negative lead.
Removing Glove Compartment
- Remove glove compartment insert (2 x Torx 25).
Removing Connector From Passenger Module
WARNING:
- The battery should not be connected when SRS ignition cable igniter connector is removed or installed.
- If the passenger module has recently been activated. Remember that the gas generator on the underside of the passenger module is hot for approx. 30 minutes afterwards.
Remove:
- SRS ignition cable igniter connector from the underside of the passenger module.
- SRS ignition cable from clip.
WARNING: Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected non-deployed airbag module. This could deploy the airbag.
Removing Passenger Module
WARNING: Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected non-deployed airbag module. This could deploy the airbag.
- Remove nut (see arrow in figure) and strap from bracket.
- Remove the screws (2 x Torx 25) from the back of the passenger module.
- Grip the front of the module and pull it back approx. 0.5" until it stops. Then lift the module straight up.
CAUTION: If a non-deployed passenger module is removed temporarily, it should be placed with the metal side (rear) downwards in a protected place.
If passenger module fit is OK:
- Continue with installing SRS airbag date decal.
If the passenger module fit is incorrect:
- Remove passenger module.
- Align passenger module with 3 adjustment clips. The adjustment clips are positioned in the dashboard air-bag frame as illustrated below.
Adjustment clips are available in different heights. Use the following:
^ Adjustment clip 1.5 mm (white), P/N 6812851
^ Adjustment clip 2.3 mm (black), P/N 6812849
^ Adjustment clip 3.1 mm (red), P/N 6812850
When fit is OK:
- Install screws, strap and nut.
Installing SRS Airbag Date Decal
NOTE: Do not forget to replace the passenger module decal on the driver's side B-post with the new label supplied with the module.
- Install the decal with the new date for the passenger side airbag. Located on the driver's side B-post.
The date decal is supplied with the new passenger module.
Connecting Connector To Passenger Module
WARNING: The battery should not be connected when SRS ignition cable igniter connector is removed or installed.
Install:
- SRS ignition cable igniter connector to the underside of the passenger module.
- SRS ignition cable in clip.
Installing Glove Compartment
- Install glove compartment insert (2 x Torx 25).
Final Check
WARNING: Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.
When all components have been reinstalled:
- Switch the ignition to position II.
- Connect battery negative lead.
Check any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
- Connect the Volvo Scan Tool (ST). Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
