Replacement of components
Replacement of fuel gauge sender

Removal of fuel gauge sender
Preparations 1
Lower the convertible top to the position shown in the illustration.
Removal of hatches and panels 2
Remove:
- floor hatch.
- warning triangle box.
- luggage compartment right side panel.
- luggage compartment front panel.
Note!
Loosen the clips on the rear of the side panel to remove the side panel.
Remove 5 nuts from the fuel pump compartment cover and cut the cable guard.
Removal of rear seat, roll bar panel and loudspeaker 3
Remove:
- rear seat. See other manual: Rear seat Sect. 8(82-86, 88), Convertible C70 exterior equipment.
- roll bar panel. See other manual: Roll bar panel Sect. 8(82-86, 88), Convertible C70 exterior equipment.
- 4 screws holding the loudspeaker.
Removal of roll bar cartridge 4
Move the hood to the position shown in the figure.
- make a note of any radio code.
- ignition off.
- disconnect the battery negative lead.
Remove the roll bar cartridge. See other manual: Replacement of the roll bar cartridge TP 8312201 C70, Sect. 8(88), ROPS/SRS, C70 Convertible.
Separating connectors 5
Loosen the clip of the cable holder. Squeeze the clip and press it back.
Loosen the connector from the holder, then thread the cables back and separate them.
Remove 4 nuts from the fuel gauge sender compartment cover and lift out the cover guard.
Removal of fuel gauge sender 6
Remove the plastic nut from the fuel gauge sender. Use tool 999 5486. Only remove the nut.
Hint:
Attach a piece of string to the connector attachment before feeding the cable through. Attach another piece of string to the new gauge connector to help position the cable correctly.
Lift up the fuel gauge sender. Feed the cable through at the same time.
Remove the seal.
Note!
Install the plastic nut for the sending unit back to the threaded neck on the tank, to prevent the neck from swelling.
Remove the fuel gauge sender.
Check the fuel gauge sender function.

Install in reverse order. Install a new rubber seal. Lubricate the upper part and the inside of the seal with Vaseline.
Position the fuel gauge sender so that the cable is turned to the left.
Tighten the plastic nut to 30 Nm (22.1 ft-lb).
Installation of roll bar cartridge 8
Install the roll bar cartridge in reverse order.
Install the roll bar. See other manual: Replacement of the roll bar cartridge Sect. 8(88), ROPS/SRS, C70 Convertible.
Installation of rear seat, roll bar panel and loudspeaker 9
Install in reverse order.
