Replacement Procedure

Removing the engine cooling fan (FC) and fan shroud 1

Remove:

- the intake pipe for the air cleaner (ACL) housing

- the canister purge (CP) valve from the engine cooling fan shroud

- canister purge valve vacuum hose from clip at bottom of shroud

- the hose clamps and charge air pipe / hose on the right hand side (turbo charged engines only).

Remove the four tie straps holding the cable harness on the fan shroud. 2

Note!
Some cars have three tie straps and a clip holding the cable harness on the fan shroud.

Lift out the hose (3) for the expansion tank from the holders on top of the fan shroud.

Disconnect both the connectors (1, 2) for the engine cooling fan (FC).

Remove connector mounting bracket and discard. It will not be reused.

Remove both the screws holding the fan shroud. Carefully lift out the engine cooling fan (FC).

Installing the new engine cooling fan (FC) and fan shroud 3

Carefully lower the fan shroud and align with the holders. Position the cable harness behind the holder (3).

Tighten both the mounting screws.

Transfer the attachment clips from two of the tie straps to the tie straps with double catch (1).

Install double catch tie straps (1) and single catch tie strap (2)

Secure the engine compartment cable harness using lower catch for double tie straps (1) and the single tie strap (2) to the fan shroud.

Install new attachment clip for engine cooling fan (FC) connector on the harness connector.

Press the expansion tank hose (3) into the holder on the fan shroud. 4

Connect the engine cooling fan (FC) connectors (1, 2) and attach connector to the inner mounting tab not the outer tab that the original bracket utilized.

Install engine cooling fan harness using upper catch for double tie straps (1)

Using one of the removed single tie straps secure both the fan and the engine compartment harnesses behind the left outer mounting tab.

Install:

- the canister purge (CP) valve and vacuum hose. Original vacuum hose attachment clip is no longer needed. Route vacuum hose along side of fan opening flange and press it into molded pin.

- the hose clamp and charge air pipe / hose on the righthand side (turbocharged engines only)

- the intake pipe for the air cleaner (ACL).

Warranty material return: To ensure proper claim reimbursement, only the Cooling Fan Module needs to be returned to VCNA TMA. Scrap the remaining shroud and motor. Remove the Cooling Fan Module from the fan shroud as follows:

Remove three torx screws (1) securing fan control unit (3) to fan housing. 5

Cut wires (2) leading to fan motor from control unit (3).
