Connecting test box to connector by engine control module (ECM)
- Ignition off.
- Remove the locking band around the engine control module and remove the control unit from its bracket as described in.
- Disconnect engine control module (ECM).
- To avoid it obstructing pedals the cable harness with control module connector should be pulled out to the right of the center console (left-hand drive) or to the left of the center console (right-hand drive) and the connector should be put on the floor.
- Check that the male and female terminals in the control module and control module connector are intact and properly attached and that the wiring to the female terminals is properly attached to the terminal.
- Check the terminals relevant to the diagnostic trouble code (DTC)/symptom especially well.
Connect adapter 951 1358 Adaptor 55-pin ABS Fenix 5.1 S40,V40 951 1358 Adaptor 55-pin ABS Fenix 5.1 S40,V40 to engine control module (ECM) connector and connect test box 981 3190 Replaced by 9511428 981 3190 Replaced by 951 1428 to adapter.
Select Continue.

- Switch off all power consumers, such as interior lighting and radio.
Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and #2 and #3 respectively on the test box.
The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohms for both readings.
OK - Resume fault tracing where it was interrupted.

Check the wires between ground point (31/7) and engine control module connection 2 and 3 for an open circuit as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.

- Connect a voltmeter between terminal 3 (0 V) and terminal 51 on the breakout box (connected to the FENIX engine control module (ECM))
- Engine running
- The generator (GEN) D+ must be OK
- The blower fan switch must not be in position 0
- The air conditioning (A/C) button must be in the ON position (the green LED is on).
- The voltage must be approximately 0.8 V when the air conditioning (A/C) button is in the ON position (the green LED is lit)
- The voltage must be approximately battery voltage when the air conditioning (A/C) button is in the OFF position (the orange LED is lit).
Is the voltage OK in both cases?

- Disconnect the connector from the compressor
- ECC control module connected.
- Connect a voltmeter between terminal 3 (0 V) and terminal 51 on the breakout box (connected to the FENIX engine control module (ECM)).
- The voltage must be approximately battery voltage when the air conditioning (A/C) button is in the ON position (the green LED is lit)
- Connect a voltmeter between ground (0 V) and the compressor connector
- Engine running
- The blower fan switch must not be in position 0.
Is the voltage OK?
Yes - Replacing the component
No - Checking the compressor

- Replace the compressor according to Compressor AC Compressor, Replacement.
Select "Continue" when the component has been replaced.

- Ignition off
- Remove air conditioning (A/C) relay 2/10 from the relay base
- Connect the compressor connector.
Bridge across terminals 3 and 5 on the air conditioning (A/C) relay base.
The compressor should start if the wiring for the air conditioning (A/C) relay is OK.
Does the compressor start?

- Disconnect the battery negative lead.
- Connect an ohmmeter between fuse 9 (10 A, negative side) and the relay base for air conditioning (A/C) relay terminal 5
- Connect an ohmmeter between the relay base for the air conditioning (A/C) terminal 3 and the connector for air conditioning (A/C) compressor terminal 1.
The ohmmeter should read 0 ohms.

- Replace the air conditioning (A/C) relay.

- Remedy the open-circuit between fuse 9 (10 A) and the relay base for the air conditioning (A/C) relay terminal 5. Alternately remedy the open-circuit between the relay base for the air conditioning (A/C) relay terminal 3 and the connector for the air conditioning (A/C) compressor.
Select Continue when the fault has been remedied.

Check the following cables for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault :
- the cable between fuse 9 (10 A) and the relay base for air conditioning (A/C) relay terminal 5
- the cable between the relay base for the air conditioning (A/C) relay terminal 3 and the air conditioning (A/C) compressor connector.

Connect a voltmeter between ground and air conditioning (A/C) relay 2/13 base terminal 1.
- Ignition on
- The voltmeter should read battery voltage.
Is the voltage OK?

No - Remedy open-circuit

Checking the power supply to the FENIX control module
- Ignition off
- Disconnect the connector for the pressure switch.
Bridge across terminals 1 and 4 on the pressure switch connector.
- Connect a voltmeter between terminals 3 and 10 on the breakout box
- Engine running
- The voltage must be approximately battery voltage when the air conditioning (A/C) button is in the ON position (the green LED is lit)
- The voltage must be approximately 0.8 V when the air conditioning (A/C) button is in the OFF position (the orange LED is lit).
Is the voltage OK in both cases?
Yes - Replacing the component
No - Checking for an open-circuit

- Ignition off.
Connect an ohmmeter between the relay base for the air conditioning (A/C) relay terminal 2 in the integrated relay / fusebox in the engine compartment and terminal 51 on the breakout box.
The ohmmeter should read 0 ohms.

- Remedy the open-circuit between the junction point and the air conditioning (A/C) relay in the integrated relay / fusebox in the engine compartment terminal 1.
Select Continue when the fault has been remedied.

Remedy the open-circuit between the relay base for the air conditioning (A/C) relay terminal 2 in the integrated relay / fuse box in the engine compartment and the connector for the FENIX engine control module (ECM), terminal 51.
