Breakout box and checking ground terminals

Is the breakout box connected? Have the ground terminals been checked?

Yes - DONE

Areas of use for the breakout box
Breakout box 981 3190 Replaced by 9511428 981 3190 Replaced by 951 1428 is designed to facilitate reading off:
- the control module input and output signals when the control module is connected
- the resistance of cables and components with the control module disconnected.
The breakout box makes it safer to take readings because it is easier to see and access measurement points. The risk of accidental short-circuits and damaged connector pins is also reduced.
Turn off the power to the ECC control module when connecting the breakout box otherwise the control module may be damaged and incorrect diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored.

- Ignition off
- ECC control module connected.
Check the control module and the control module connector visually according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault
Connect adapter 981 3194 Replaced by 9511495 981 3194 Replaced by 951 1495 (only the 30-pin connector) between the ECC control module and the climate control connector. Then connect breakout box 981 3190 Replaced by 9511428 981 3190 Replaced by 951 1428 to the adapter. This is connection is carried out when taking readings with the control module connected.
The control module terminals 1- 30 correspond to terminals 1-30 on the breakout box.

- Ignition off
- Disconnect the ECC control module.
Check the control module and the control module connector visually according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault
Connect adapter 981 3194 Replaced by 9511495 981 3194 Replaced by 951 1495 (only the 30-pin connector) to the climate control system connector. Then connect breakout box 981 3190 Replaced by 9511428 981 3190 Replaced by 951 1428 to the adapter. The breakout box is now only connected to the climate control connector. This connection is used to measure resistance in the ECC system cables and components with the ECC control module disconnected.
The control module terminals 1- 30 correspond to terminals 1-30 on the breakout box.

- Ignition off.
Connect an ohmmeter the chassis and terminal 3 to check power ground.









The ohmmeter should read 0ohms.

OK - Checking ground terminals

Not OK - Checking for an open-circuit

Connect an ohmmeter between terminals 3 and 23 on the breakout box.

The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms.

OK - No Fault Found

Not OK - Checking breakout box

- Ignition off
- Disconnect the adapter from the ECC control module and from the ECC control module connector.
Check the internal cables in the breakout box for the ground terminal which deviated from 0 ohms.
Connect an ohmmeter between:
- breakout box terminal 3 and adapter connector terminal 3
- breakout box terminal 23 and adapter connector terminal 23.









The ohmmeter should read 0 ohms.

OK - Replacing the component

Not OK - Replacing the component

Replacing the component
- Try a new ECC control module according to Control module, climate Control Module, Climate.

Select "Continue" when the component has been replaced.

Checking for an open-circuit
Check the ground lead between the 30 pin connector terminal 3 (ECC control module side) and ground terminal relay box 15/14, ground rail D8, for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault









Is there an open-circuit in the cable?

Yes - Remedy open-circuit

No - Checking for an open-circuit

Check for an open-circuit between ground rail D10 and chassis Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.





Select Continue when the fault has been remedied.

Replacing the component
- Disconnect adapter 981 3194 Replaced by 9511495 981 3194 Replaced by 951 1495 from the breakout box 981 3190 Replaced by 9511428 981 3190 Replaced by 951 1428. Check the relevant leads in the breakout box and adapter to establish where the fault is.
Replace breakout box or adapter.

Select Continue when the fault has been remedied.

Self-adjustment of the shutter motor end position
Activate the self-adjustment function with VIDA according to Self adjustment of damper motor limit positions Self Adjustment Of Damper Motor Limit Positions.





Select "Continue" when self-adjustment is complete.

Hint: Check after repair that the fault has been rectified.












- Ignition off
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components etc.
- ECC- control module connected.
- Engine running
- VCT2000 connected to the data link connector (DLC).
Establish communication with the ECC -system.
