Connecting the Volvo Communication Tool 2000 (VCT 2000)
The VCT 2000 must be connected to both the VIDA PC and the data link connector (DLC) in the car to communicate with the control modules in the car.
For information about connection, see Connecting VCT2000 Connecting VCT2000.

- Ignition on.
Warning! The battery must supply sufficient voltage throughout the transfer.A battery charger should therefore be connected to the vehicle throughout the transfer process.
Warning! Leave VCT 2000 connected to the vehicle until VIDA displays that the program transfer is complete.
If the transfer is interrupted (this may occur if the connection between VCT 2000 and the vehicle is broken or if the battery discharges), the status of the control module may be indefinable. It is normally sufficient to switch the ignition on and off and to then try programming again to return to normal function.
In some cases it may be necessary to disconnect the control module and then switch of the ignition to return to normal function.
Caution! It is important that correct chassis number is supplied when ordering software. If an incorrect chassis number is supplied, the software may contain incorrect PIN codes. This will mean that the control module cannot be programmed. If programming fails, even though the correct software has been ordered, there may be an incorrect PIN code stored in VITaL.

Communication fault
The communication between VCT 2000 and the vehicle has failed for one of the following reasons:
- The battery voltage is too low.
- The control module does not respond.
- The ignition is off.
Ensure that:
Battery voltage exceeds 12 V.
The ignition is on.

Communication failure
Communication between VIDA PC and VCT 2000 has failed for one of the following reasons:
- Ignition is OFF.
- The VST/VCT 2000 switch is not in position VCT 2000.
- VCT 2000 is not connected to the diagnostic connector.
- VCT 2000 is not connected to VIDA PC/selector switch.
- Communication problem in VIDA application and/or vehicle.
- Too low battery voltage.
Ensure that:
- Ignition is ON and selector switch is in position VCT 2000.
- VCT 2000 is properly connected to diagnostic connector inside vehicle and VIDA PC/selector switch.
- VCT 2000 and associated cables are functional.
- Battery voltage exceeds 12 V.

Information about programming the trip computer function
Note! This programming must not be carried out on a new unprogrammedcombined instrument panel. Exit. Order the correct software package for a new combined instrument panel.
This option is used to program the combined instrument panel for the trip computer function. Before programming is carried out, the unit for the trip computer function must be installed and connected. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored if programming is carried out when an outside temperature sensor is not installed.
Select option 1 below if the combined instrument panel is equipped with, and programmed for, display.
Select option 2 below if the display is installed, but not programmed.
Select one of the following functions:
1. Programming the trip computer function.
2. Programming the display.
3. Exit programming.

Programming the display type
Note! The combined instrument panel is programmed to display or not using this parameter. This function must be used if a display has notpreviously been programmed.
- Ignition on.
1. Activate the programming procedure by clicking on the VCT 2000 symbol.
2. Read off the current value for the setting in the upper list windows.
3. If you want to modify the Display type, select the desired setting from the alternatives in the lower list window.
Caution! If the combined instrument panel display is in kilometers, the kilometer display (metric) must be selected. If the combined instrument panel display is in miles, the miles display (imperial) must be selected.
4. Select the Start programming button to begin the programming procedure.
5. Check that the new setting in the middle list window is correct.
If the selected setting is incorrect, click on the desired value in the lower list window again. Then click on the Start programming button. Check that the new value in the middle list window is the desired value.
Then select Continue
Continue - Programming the outside temperature display unit
