Turbocharger: Adjustments
Checking and adjusting the boost pressure control (BPC) valve on the turbocharger (TC)
Special tools:
999 5230 PRESSURE METER 999 5230 Pressure Meter
999 5766 Press. regul 999 5766 Press. regul
Manometer
- Use manometer 999 5230 PRESSURE METER 999 5230 Pressure Meter to measure the pressure whilst adjusting.
Connect the test equipment
- Remove the turbocharger (TC) control valve from the air cleaner (ACL) housing
- Remove the yellow marked hose (A) from the turbocharger (TC) control valve
- Connect special tool 999 5230 PRESSURE METER 999 5230 Pressure Meter and pressure regulator 999 5766 Press. regul 999 5766 Press. regul to the removed hose
- Connect the workshop air supply to 999 5766 Press. regul 999 5766 Press. regul.
Checking the adjustment of the boost pressure control (BPC) valve
- Remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold.
- Turn the setting screw on special tool 999 5766 Press. regul 999 5766 Press. regul clockwise until the pressure in the table is reached. Measure the stroke length of the pressure servo. Use a vernier caliper
- The measured value represents the opening of the boost pressure control (BPC) valve, measured at the end of the lever (A).
Note! Ensure that the valve is closed when the push rod is in the resting position.
Adjust the pressure servo for the boost pressure control (BPC) valve if the values deviate from the above values. See Release the push rod for the boost pressure control (BPC) valve
Release the push rod for the boost pressure control (BPC) valve
Remove the split pin from the lever.
Slacken off the nut.
Release the push rod. Lift the push rod straight up.
Adjusting the pressure servo for the boost pressure control (BPC) valve
- Adjust the push rod on the pressure servo for the boost pressure control (BPC) valve if the values deviate from the above values. See Checking the adjustment of the boost pressure control (BPC) valve
- Reset the air pressure before each test / adjustment.
Note! The push rod must be mounted on the lever when the lock-nut is adjusted. The diaphragm in the pressure regulator will be damaged if the push rod is turned.
- Tighten the lock nut on the push rod. Tighten to 9 Nm. Do not damage the membrane.
Reinstall / reconnect
- Install the washer and the tensioner pin on the lever
- Remove special tool
- Connect the hose to the pressure servo for the boost pressure control (BPC) valve. Use a clamp
- Install the turbocharger (TC) control valve on the air cleaner (ACL) housing
- Install the heat shield for the exhaust manifold.
- Erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
- Test drive the car. Accelerate to wide open throttle (WOT) a couple of times
- Check that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been stored.
