Air Bag Systems: Service and Repair

Handling Non-deployed Airbag Modules/Pyrotechnic Seat Belt Tensioners







If the car is to be scrapped, or when replacing the steering wheel module, the passenger module, the seat belt tensioner and the front seat SIPS air bag handling

- Non-deployed air bag modules/pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners must not be deployed either in the car or when removed.

Remove according to the instructions in section:

- After a collision in which the SRS system has been deployed.
- Steering wheel module steering wheel and contact reel, replacement.
- Replacing the passenger air bag module.
- Replacing sensor module.

Up to model year 2000 cars

- Replacing seat belt tensioners.

From model year 2000

- Seat belt tensioner.
- SIPS air bag.










WARNING:
- Airbag modules/pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners must never be taken apart, repaired or moved to another vehicle.
- Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected non-deployed air bag/pyrotechnic seat belt tensioner. Airbags/pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners may be deployed.
- Replaced air bag modules/pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners should be returned to Volvo according to standard procedures.

Storage and transport

- Store and transport air bag modules/pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners according to the relevant national statutory requirements.
