Axle Nut






Centre nut, drive shaft and tightening torque


Hint: Applies to 1998-2000: If the lock nut which was installed in step 3 (B) does not remain in place or was replaced during a repair, flanged nut (P/N 3089 6406) must be used with the same tightening torque as for the 2001 - (C) version.

Check-tightening the factory-installed centre nut for the drive shaft




The versions with factory-installed centre nuts for the drive shaft and the correct tightening torques are listed here.
- 1997:
Yellow lock nut with separate curved spring washer.
Tighten to 240 Nm.
1998-2000:
Black flanged nut.

Tighten to:
1. : 120 Nm
2. : tighten a further + 60 ° in a single movement.

Hint: For 1998-2000 the version (C) in step 3 can be used.

2001-:
Yellow flanged nut (black washer).

Tighten to:
1. : 180 Nm
2. : tighten a further + 30 ° in a single movement.

Versions of centre nut for the drive shaft which may occur




-1997:
A: Lock nut with separate curved spring washer.
If the lock nut with spring washer has already been replaced, version B2 or B3 (without separate spring washer) may occur.
1998 - 2000:
B1: Black flanged lock nut, (open head).
If version B1 has already been replaced, version B2 or B3 may occur.
B2: Black flanged lock nut (black washer), P/N 920 0250.
B3: Black (service) flanged lock nut (black washer with tab), P/N 3088 4229.

Note! If the lock nut mentioned in B1, B2 or B3 has been installed, and if it is loose or has been replaced during a repair, version (C) must be used.

2001-:
C: Yellow flanged lock nut (black washer), P/N 3089 6406.

Centre nut for the drive shaft used during service work




The following lock nuts must be used if the centre nut for the drive shaft is replaced.
-1997:
Use curved spring washer, P/N 3087 0246, and lock nut, P/N 3087 2409.
Tighten to 240 Nm.
1998 - :
Use yellow flanged lock nut (black washer), P/N 3089 6406.

Tighten to:
1. : 180 Nm
2. : tighten a further + 30 ° in a single movement.
