Corrective action to counter leakage in the power steering pump

Replace the circlip for the drive shaft




- Disassemble the power steering pump. See Removing and/or installing the power steering pump, gasoline powered cars
- Remove the circlip from the drive shaft
- Check the running surfaces on the drive shaft for damage and scratches
- Install the circlip for the drive shaft
- Install the power steering pump. See Removing and/or installing the power steering pump, gasoline powered cars .

Tighten the hose connectors to the pump and the steering gear housing




Tighten all the hose connectors fully.
Fill and bleed the fluid reservoir, see Removing and/or installing the power steering pump, gasoline powered cars .

Install a new O-ring on the control valve
Replace the power steering pump. See Removing and/or installing the power steering pump, gasoline powered cars .

Install a new return hose in the pump housing




Disassemble the power steering pump. See Removing and/or installing the power steering pump, gasoline powered cars .
Tension the nipple in a bench vise and turn it out of the pump housing.
Clean the nipple and the hole in the pump housing.
Apply locking fluid (P/N 1161057-3) to the nipple. Press the nipple into the pump housing until it reaches the stop.

Note! Be careful during this operation. Use a rounded off drift.
