Removal1
Removing the nut for the control arm
Remove the front wheels.
Remove the nut for the control arm. Use a Torx-40 wrench as a counterhold.

Releasing the spring strut
Warning!
Ensure that the strap ends are mounted securely on the control arms
Pull down the control arms (1) using the transporter's tie-down strap (2).
Release the spring strut from the control arm.

Removing the drive shaft
Remove the bolt for the drive shaft. Use a screwdriver as a counterhold on the brake disc.
Knock the drive shaft out of the hub using a brass drift. Remove the drive shaft from the hub.
Push the spring strut to one side.

Removing the ball joint and the rubber seal
Remove the bolts for the ball joint. Remove the rubber seal (1).

Installing the inner sleeve, 999 5781-1 (2 pcs.)
Install the inner sleeve so that both halves hook securely in the collar on the ball joint flange (see arrow).
Turn the inner sleeve so that the seam between the halves is at a right angle to the flange.

Installing the outer sleeve, 999 5781-2
Install the outer sleeve over the inner sleeve. Tighten the bolt (1).
Install an old M12 nut (2) on the ball joint stud Tighten the nut so that the stud protrudes from the nut.

Installing the guide screws 999 5781-3
The guide screws have a wrench flat (see arrow) which is offset towards one end of the tool.
Aluminum spindle: Use the threaded end (1) furthest from the wrench flat.
Steel spindle: Use the threaded end (2) nearest the wrench flat.
Screw in the guide screws (1) completely.

Installing the support bracket, 999 5781
Install the support using 3 wheel bolts.

Adjusting the guide screws
Back the guide screws (1) out until they are touching the support.

Removing the ball joint
Position the supplementary support (2) 99 5781-4 on the hydraulic press(1).
Screw the connectors (3) 99 5781-5 into place on the hydraulic press.
Position the connector on the nut on the ball joint stud.
Pull the ball joint out of the spindle.
Remove the tool and the ball joint.

Cleaning the seat and the mating surfaces.
Warning!
Use protective goggles.
Clean the ball joint seat and the mating surfaces in the spindle. Use a rotary wire brush.
Lubricate the seat using wheel bearing grease.

Installing the ball joint
Caution!
Take care not to damage the rubber seal.
Loosely install the new ball joint using the guide screws. Remove the protective cap.
Press the ball joint up toward the seat using the impact drift (1) 999 5796. Check that the ball joint is centered in the seat.
Knock in the ball joint using a large hammer against the drift.
Tighten the ball joint using new screws. Tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).

Installing the drive shaft
Reinstall the drive shaft in the hub.
Install the new bolt. Use a screwdriver as a counterhold.
Tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).

Installing the control arm and ball joint
Align the ball joint ends (1) in the control arms.
Warning!
Be careful when releasing transporter's tie down strap.
Slowly release the control arms (1) by releasing the tension on the strap.

Installing the nut
Secure the control arm with a new nut
CAUTION
Use a Torx 40 counterhold so that the rubber boot is not damaged. Tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft)
Install the wheels. Tighten to 140 Nm (103 lbf ft)
