Activating lock motor, locking
- Ignition on.
- Close all the doors including trunk lid / tailgate.
Activate the central locking motors.
The trunk lid / tailgate should now lock.
Did the tailgate / trunk lid lock?
Yes - Activating lock motor, unlocking
No - Checking the connectors and cables

The trunk lid / tailgate should now unlock.
Did the tailgate / trunk lid unlock?

Check the VGLA control module connector and the central locking motor connector for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the cable between VGLA control module terminal B11 (#37) and the relay for the trunk lid / tailgate lock motor terminal 5, between the relay for the trunk lid / tailgate lock motor terminal 1 and the central locking motor connector terminal 1 and between VGLA control module terminal B2 (#28) and the central locking motor connector terminal 2 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Check the cable between VGLA control module terminal B20 (#46) and the relay trunk lid / tailgate lock motor terminal 2 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied as follows:
- Ignition off.
- Reconnect the connectors, reinstall components etc.
- Ignition on.
- Close all the doors including trunk lid / tailgate.
Activate the central locking motors.
The trunk lid / tailgate should now lock.
