Checking Kickdown Function

Checking the kickdown function

Checking the function of the kickdown switch

- Ignition on
- Go into scrolling values.
- Read off kickdown switch position.
The reading should only be ON if the accelerator pedal (AP) is depressed to kickdown position. For other accelerator pedal (AP) positions the reading should be OFF. If the value is correct the function is OK.

Are the correct values displayed?

Yes - No Fault Found

No - ???

-------------------------------------------------

Checking components and wiring
Check the control module connector and kickdown switch (KD) connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the resistance of the kickdown switch (KD) when it is pressed down and when it is in the released position. The resistance should be approximately 0 ohm with the kickdown switch (KD) pressed down as far as it will go. The resistance should be infinite when it is released.
Check the cable between kickdown switch (KD) terminal 2 and control module terminal 18 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the cable between kickdown switch (KD) terminal 1 and the ground terminal for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Remedy as necessary

Other information
- To access or replace the kickdown switch (KD), see Replacing the kickdown switch (KD), AW50-42 Replacing Kickdown Switch (KD).
- The voltage at the signal cable varies between 0-2 V below battery voltage or approximately 0 V depending on the position of the kickdown switch (KD). For other values,

Select "Continue" when the fault has been remedied.
