Preparations
Preparations, removing
Ensure that the gear selector is in N.
Remove:
- The battery
- The air cleaner (ACL) housing assembly
- The transmission cable from the lever
- The lever.
Checking and adjusting gear-shift position sensor
Check
NOTE! Press the tool down towards the flat surfaces below the thread on the shaft.
Install tool 999 5475 on the gear shift linkage rod. Check that the rod is in the N position (second position after the P position, P-R-N).
The slot on the tool must line up exactly over the marking on the gear-shift position sensor.
Adjustment
Ensure that:
- The bracket for the dip stick pipe has been slackened off.
- The gear-shift position sensor screws have been slackened off.
Rotate the gear position sensor so that the mark on the sensor is lined up exactly with the slot on the tool.
Tighten the sensor screws.
Tighten to: 25 Nm.
Installation
Installing components
Install:
- The bracket for the dip stick pipe. Ensure that the O-ring is in position. Tighten the nut Tighten to: 25 Nm.
- The lever on the gear shift linkage rod. Tighten to: 16Nm.
- The transmission cable on the lever with a washer and retaining clip. Apply a small amount of grease (P/N 1161241-3) to the lever shaft journal.
Installing engine compartment components
Install:
- The battery shelf
- The air cleaner (ACL) housing assembly
- The battery.
Checking diagnostic trouble codes (DTCS)
Check and erase any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Check the positions of the gear-shift position sensor. If it is not possible to use VCT2000 as a handheld test tool, use the Volvo Scan Tool as the test instrument instead. To connect the Volvo Scan Tool (ST), see Connecting the Volvo Scan Tool (ST).
