Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder: Service and Repair
Replacing the steering wheel lock and the lock cylinder for the steering wheel lock

Preparations
Remove the battery negative lead
Lower the steering wheel to its lowest position.
Remove the lower steering column cover.
Replace the lock cylinder for the steering wheel lock
Remove:
Turn the ignition key to position 1.
Press down the lug for the lock cylinder. Use a 2 mm drift.
Remove the steering wheel lock.
Install
Insert the ignition key in the new lock.
Turn the ignition key to position 1.
Press the lug down using a drift. Press the cylinder into the ignition switch.
Check that everything is functioning correctly.
Replacing the steering wheel lock
Note! The steering column must be taken down in order to replace the steering wheel lock. For -1999 model years with automatic or manual transmissions and for 2000 model year for manual transmissions, see Removing and installing the steering column Removal and Replacement. Model year 2000 with automatic transmission Position the steering column in a bench vice.
Remove the steering wheel lock
Drill a hole in both bolts.
Remove the security bolts. Use special tool 998 5447 SCREW EXTRACTOR SET 6-12 MM 998 5447 Screw Extractor Set 6-12 mm or carefully tap the bolts out.
Install the steering wheel lock
Install the steering wheel lock and bearing in the steering column.
Tighten the two new security bolts until the steering wheel lock is correctly positioned.
Install the lock cylinder. See Replace the lock cylinder for the steering wheel lock.
Check that everything is functioning correctly.
Now tighten the bolts until the heads break off.
Install the steering column. For -1999 model years with automatic or manual transmissions, and 2000 model year with manual transmissions, see Removing and installing the steering column Removal and Replacement.
