Driver information module (DIM), installation/removal, component replacement
Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
Preparatory work
Method contents
This method consists of:
- Reading out customer data
- Driver information module (DIM), replacing
- Glass, replacing
- IC unit / outer temperature gauge and cover washer, replacing
- Finishing
Reading out customer data
Caution! Before replacing the driver information module (DIM), it is important to read out how the old one is programmed. This is done in VIDA Vehicle communication.Read out and note the programmed values.After replacement, program the data in the new driver information module (DIM).If the values cannot be read out, consult your closest supervisor/sales company/customer so that the new driver information module (DIM) is configured the same way as the old one.
Note any radio code and indicator reading.
Ignition off
Disconnect the negative battery lead.
Driver information module (DIM), replacing
Driver information module (DIM) removal
Remove the 2 screws (A) from the underside of the steering column.
Lower the steering column.
Remove:
- the 2 screws (B)
- the casing around the driver information module (DIM).
Remove:
- the 3 screws
- the driver information module (DIM) - pull straight out
- connectors and cables located behind the information module in the dashboard.
Caution! During transport and handling, the driver information module (DIM) must never be placed or held with the glass facing down.
Caution! Attention must be given to the following when working with the driver information module:
- The work site must be free of dust, dirt, oil, solvent, etc.
- always wash your hands before removing the driver information module (DIM). Do not apply skin lotion or the like to your hands after washing them. If protective gloves are worn, they must be of a thin cotton material as synthetic material can cause static electricity.
- The wiring plate must not be subjected to static electricity.
- Do not touch the wiring plate or instrument module surfaces. Do not touch instrument indicators or disturb their position. They are factory-calibrated. If the indicators are touched and disturbed from their calibrated conditions, the instrument module might have to be replaced.
Driver information module (DIM), installation
Install:
- driver information module (DIM)
- the 3 screws.
Install:
- the edging
- the 2 screws (B)
- the steering column screws (A) - tighten to 15 Nm.
Ignition on.
Connect the negative battery lead.
Glass, replacing
Glass removal
Remove:
- the support (A)
- the glass (B). Press in the 7 clips.
Glass installation
Install:
- the glass (B)
- the support (A).
IC unit / outer temperature gauge and cover washer, replacing
IC unit/outer temperature gauge and cover washer removal
Remove:
- the glass and the black cover panel; see Glass removal
- the cover (A)
- the 8 screws (B)
- the engine temperature gauge/fuel gauge
- the cover washer (D) if one is fitted
- the 2 screws (C)
- the IC unit/outer temperature gauge.

Install:
- the IC unit/outer temperature gauge
- the 2 screws (C)
- the cover washer (D) if one is fitted
- the engine temperature gauge/fuel gauge
- the 8 screws (B)
- the cover (A)
- the glass and the black cover panel; see Glass installation
Finishing
Programming driver information module (DIM)
Note! An unprogrammed driver information module (DIM) will not be operational until it is programmed.
When a new trip computer display has been installed:
Order and download appropriate software.
When a new wiring plate (control module) with instrumentation has been installed:
Order and download appropriate software.
Function test
Carry out a function check.
Set:
- any radio code
- the clock.
