- Ignition off.
- Remove all spark plugs.
Check the spark plugs for cracks in the porcelain, the spark gap and for carbon and other deposits. If uncertain - replace the spark plugs.

In the event of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), that affect camshaft control or camshaft reset valve, these must be fault-traced first.
Check that the engine oil level is correct.
Check for air leakage in the intake system according to Check for air leaks in the intake system Air Leaks in the Intake System, Checking.
Check the function of the crankcase ventilation.
Check fuel pressure and residual pressure .
Check engine for leakage according to Cylinder leakage test Testing and Inspection.
Check the flywheel for damage.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.








- Ignition off.
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.
- Start the engine.
- Select the cylinder which caused the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) and check if the fault counter counts upwards.
