Checking Condenser Fan
Checking condenser fan
Checking the condenser fan
- Start the engine
- Wait at least 10 seconds for the climate control module to carry out its diagnostics
- Start the blower fan
- Affect the air conditioning (A/C) switch on the climate control module so that A/C is requested (the green LED lights).
Note! The normal conditions for engagement of air conditioning (A/C) must have been met.
- Check that the condenser fan starts. The fault is no linger present if the function is OK.
Is the function OK?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
No - Checking the fuse, cable
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the fuse, cable
- Check the fuse for the circuit for contact resistance and oxidation. Check that the fuse is not defective. See the cover for the integrated relay/fusebox in the engine compartment for locations
- Check the connections to the relay for the air conditioning (A/C) fan for contact resistance and oxidation. See the cover for the integrated relay/fusebox in the engine compartment for locations
- Check the cable between the relevant fuses in the integrated relay/fusebox in the engine compartment and terminals #1 and #3 on the relay for air conditioning (A/C) fan. Check for an open-circuit and a short-circuit to ground.
Hint: The voltage at terminals #1 and #3 must be approximately the same as battery voltage, measured in relation to power ground.
- Check the cable between terminal #2 on the relay for the air conditioning (A/C) fan and the engine control module (ECM). Check for contact resistance and oxidation, an open-circuit and a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Hint: The voltage at terminal #2 must be approximately the same as battery voltage when the relay for the air conditioning (A/C) fan is not activated by the engine control module (ECM).
Remedy as necessary.

Was a fault detected?
Yes - Verification
No - Checking components
-------------------------------------------------
Checking components
- Bridge across terminals #3 and #5 in the relay base for the air conditioning (A/C) fan. See the cover for the integrated relay/fusebox in the engine compartment for locations
- Check that the condenser fan starts. The relay for the air conditioning (A/C) fan is defective if the condenser fan starts.
Does the condenser fan start?
Yes - Replacing the component
No - Checking cable and component
-------------------------------------------------
Checking cable and component
- Check the connector on the condenser fan. Check for contact resistance and oxidation
- Check the cable between terminal #5 on the relay for air conditioning (A/C) fan and condenser fan terminal #2. Check for an open-circuit and a short-circuit to ground. See the cover for the integrated relay/fusebox in the engine compartment for locations
- Check that the ground terminal #1 for the condenser fan is OK
- Check the condenser fan.
Hint: Connect a temporary cable between the battery positive terminal and the condenser fan terminal 2. The condenser fan should then start.
Remedy as necessary.

Replacing the component
- Replace the air conditioning (A/C) fan relay. See the cover for the integrated relay/fusebox in the engine compartment for locations.
Continue - Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connectors, reinstall components etc.
The fault has been remedied if the function is OK.

Information
Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
