Wheel Hub: Testing and Inspection
Measuring lateral runout in hub (front/rear)
Special tools:

Preparations
Remove
- the hub cap and the wheel.
- the brake caliper and hang it on a steel wire to avoid damage to the brake hose. Rear brake disc: remove the brake hose from the support.
Mark the position of the brake disc on the hub so that it can be reinstalled in the same position.
Clean hub flange carefully.
Remove rust using a iron scrapper or a steel brush.
Installing test equipment
Assemble the dial gauge ( 999 9696 MAGNETIC BASE 999 9696 Magnetic Base , 999 9684 DIAL INDICATOR 0-10 MM 999 9684 Dial Indicator 0-10 mm ).
Install the measuring equipment as indicated in the illustration.
The picture shows the front wheel measuring.
Measuring lateral runout at wheel hub
Position the dial gauge against the flange.
Slowly turn the hub to the front using a socket wrench. The maximum permissible runout is 0.05 mm.
Replace the hub if it overlaps.
Finishing
Install the brake disc. Note the markings.
Rear brake disc: tighten the mounting bolt to 8 Nm.
Install the brake pads and the brake caliper.
