Replacing the transmission control module (TCM)
Removal
Points to observe when replacing the control module
Caution! Wait two minutes after the ignition has been switched off. The main relay must be voltage free before the control module can be removed from the car. If the engine cooling fan (FC) runs on after the ignition has been switched off, wait until it stops. Then wait a further 2 minutes.
Caution! Always check that the control module and control module box connector pins and sleeves are not bent or damaged. This may have caused the fault.
Preparations for replacement
Switch off the ignition
Move the gear shift lever to position P.
Caution! Wait 2 minutes after the ignition has been switched off. The main relay must be voltage free before the control module can be removed from the car. If the engine cooling fan (FC) runs on after the ignition has been switched off, wait until it stops and then wait for a further 2 minutes.
Removing the control module
Note! Do not touch the terminal pins on the control module with fingers. Static electricity may damage components in the control module.
Remove:
- the center console according to Rear center console Rear Center Console
- the four screws (A) for the control module bracket
- take out the control module
- disconnect the control module connector (B)
- the control module.
Note! Always check that the control module and cable harness connector pins and sockets are undamaged and that these have not been pressed out of their locking positions. Damaged or loose pins or sockets may cause a fault.
Installation
Install the control module
Note! Check that none of the pins or sockets on the connector are damaged
Install:
- control module connector
- the clip for the wiring
- screw the bracket into place with the control module (4x screws)
- the center console according to Rear center console Rear Center Console.
Finishing
Check that no diagnostic trouble codes have been stored during the repair.
