Combined Instrument Panel, Removing/Installing
Conditions
CAUTION: Before replacing a control module, the data programmed into the old module must be read off. This is carried out in VADIS vehicle communication. Read off and note the programmed values.
After replacement, the current data must be programmed into the new control module. If the values cannot be read off, consult your supervisor or sales company or check with the customer to ensure that the new control module is configured in the same way as the old one.
- Make a note of the anti-theft radio code and the odometer setting
- Ignition off
- Disconnect the battery negative lead.
Removing The Combined Instrument Panel
Remove:
- the 2 screws (A) from the underneath of the steering column. Lower the steering column
- the screws (B)
- the cover around the combined instrument panel.
CAUTION: When transporting or working on the combined instrument panel, it must never be placed with the glass facing downwards.
- Remove the three self tapping mounting screws from the combined instrument panel
- Pull the combined instrument panel out approximately 10 cm so that the two green connectors on the reverse can be disconnected
- Remove the combined instrument panel.
Installation
Installing the combined instrument panel
- Reinstall the combined instrument panel so that the two green connectors can be connected
- Install the combined instrument panel. Install the three self tapping mounting screws which secure the combined instrument panel.
- Install the surround around the dashboard. Tighten the screws (B)
- Tighten the steering column screws. Tighten to 15 Nm.
- Ignition on
- Reconnect the battery ground lead. Carry out a function test
- Re-enter the antitheft radio code
- Reset the clock.
Programming
NOTE: A new combined instrument panel will not function until it has been programmed.
- If a new outside temperature sensor and temperature display have been installed, proceed as follows:
- Program the function for temperature display using VADIS vehicle communication.
- If a new display for the trip computer has been installed, proceed as follows:
- Order the software.
- Program the function.
- If new printed circuit board (control module) and instrumentation have been installed, proceed as follows:
- Order the software.
- Program the new combined instrument panel.
Finishing
Check That:
- the combined instrument panel is working. Check that the temperature display of the trip computer is working correctly if these functions have been programmed
- no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) were stored during fault-tracing/repair work.
