Replacing the rocker switch, general
The rocker switch on the bracket can be removed with a pocket knife ( 981 4071 STRAIGHTENING TOOL 981 4071 Straightening Tool ).
- Insert the knife blade at the side of the rocker switch.
Carefullypry outwards.
Hint: If necessary, use a shim to avoid damaged to the surrounding panel.
Replacing the ignition switch
- Remove the lower steering shaft cover (3 screws).
- Remove the mounting screw on the back of the ignition switch.
- Disconnect the ignition switch connector.
Reinstall the components in reverse order.
- Check the function.
Replacing the light switch
Hint: The switch also has positions for low beam, headlamp height control and fog lamps.
- Remove the two mounting screws from underneath.
- The light switch is positioned highest up on the dashboard. It is secured with retaining clips on the reverse.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Press in the four retaining clips. Remove the light switch.
Reinstall the components in reverse order.
Replacing warning lamp switch
- Remove the knobs from the heater control; insert a small screwdriver at the rear edge under each knob.
- Remove the heater control panel (insert two fingers into the opening and carefully pull out the control panel).
- Remove the two upper mounting screws (torx) for the heater control panel.
Carefully pry out the ventilation vents with a small screwdriver.
- Press the catches on the panel downwards from the inside using a screwdriver. Pull the panel forward slightly.
- Press in the two retaining clips on the switch. Pull the switch out backwards.
- Disconnect the connector.
Reinstall the components in reverse order.
Replacing stop (brake) lamp switch
The stop (brake) light switch is located on the pedal box.
Remove:
- Disconnect the connector
- unscrew the stop (brake) lamp switch (to the left)
Reinstall:
- Press the stop (brake) lamp switch as far into the clamp as possible (hold the pedal up).
- Reconnect the connector.
Adjust:
- adjust by turning the stop (brake) lamp switch outwards.
Hint: The stop (brake) lamp should light when the pedal has been depressed 5 mm.
Replacing the back-up (reversing) lamp switch
Manual transmission:
- Disconnect the connector. Remove the back-up (reversing) lamp switch.
Reinstall the components in reverse order.
Note! Always use a new gasket!
- Check the transmission oil level.
Automatic transmission:
Replacing center console rocker switch
- Ignition off.
- Remove the lower upholstery of the center console on the right edge.
- Press up the entire rocker switch from underneath.
- Disconnect the connector.
- Remove the rocker switch unit.
Reinstall the components in reverse order.
Replacing the trip computer switch
- Remove the knobs from the heater control; insert a small screwdriver at the rear edge under each knob.
- Remove the heater control panel (insert two fingers into the opening and carefully pull out the control panel).
- Remove the four torx mounting screws.
- Remove the rear section of the bracket. Carefully press the edge with a screwdriver.
Note! The radio must be pulled forward a few centimeters before the rear section of the bracket can be removed.
- Remove the screws behind the rear section of the bracket. Pull the bracket forward slightly.
- Press in the retaining clips on the reverse of the trip computer switch.
Reinstall the components in reverse order.
Replacing the power sun roof switch
- Remove the cover over the courtesy lighting switch by lifting the edge with a small screwdriver.
Note! The switch spring is not fixed!
- Remove the switch with a small screwdriver.
Reinstall the components in reverse order.
Note! The courtesy lighting bulb must be removed when installing the switch (to ensure good contact at the connector pins).
Replacing power window door switches
- Remove the power window switch with a small screwdriver.
Reinstall the components in reverse order.
Replacing the power window mechanism auto down relay
- Remove the upholstery from the driver's door see Front door Service and Repair.
- Remove the relay from the clamp. Disconnect the connector.
Reinstall the components in reverse order.
Replacing the fog lamp control module
- Remove the combined instrument panel,.
- Remove the two upper screws from the instrument.
- Remove the control module.
Note! The relay is only located here if the car is equipped with a fog tail lamp. The relay is secured with a clamp.
