Generator (GEN), replacing

Removal

Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work




- Ignition off
- Disconnect the battery negative lead. See Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting
- Raise the car
- Remove the lower cover plate. Position a container under the engine drain cock
- Drain the coolant. Close the cock
- Install the lower splash guard
- Lower the car
- Remove the upper engine coolant hose
- Remove the auxiliaries belt. See Replacing the accessory drive belt / belt tensioner Service and Repair
- Remove the power steering pump. See Power steering pump, replacing Power Steering Pump, Replacing
- Disconnect the turbocharger hose from the cooling system. Push the hose to one side
- Remove the right-hand headlamp. See Headlight/bulb, replacing Headlight/Bulb, Replacing




Detach the bumper cover on the right-hand side.
Remove the screws from the front panel on the right-hand side as illustrated.

Removing the generator (GEN)





Remove:
- the screw that runs through the upper mounting
- the lower screws.




- With AC: Slacken off the lower screws for the compressor (so that there is some clearance)
- Disconnect the battery positive lead
- Disconnect the connector
- Remove the generator (GEN)
- Turn the generator (GEN) into position
- Carefully pry the front panel forwards
- Pull the generator (GEN) upwards / away.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications [1][2]Specifications.

Installing generator (GEN)
- Position the generator (GEN). Install the screw through the upper mounting. Do not tighten
- Connect the cable and the connector
- Install the lower screws for the generator (upper screws for the compressor).
- With AC: Tighten the 2 lower screws for the compressor. M8
- Tighten the 3 screws for the generator (GEN). M8.

Finishing work

Install:
- the front panel
- the bumper cover
- the right-hand headlamp. See Headlight/bulb, replacing Headlight/Bulb, Replacing
- the turbocharger hose
- the power steering pump. See Power steering pump, replacing Power Steering Pump, Replacing
- the auxiliaries belt. See Replacing the accessory drive belt / belt tensioner Service and Repair
- the engine coolant hose. Top up the coolant
- the battery negative lead. See Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting
Test the function.
