Suspension - Front Control Bushing Replacement

DESCRIPTION:
This Service Bulletin describes replacement of bushings in the front control arm.

Service: Replacing control arm bushing 1.

Note! As the illustrations in this service
information are used for different model years and
/ or models, some variation may occur. However,
the essential information in the illustrations is
always correct.

Note! The following method shows the positions of
the bushings in relation to the control arm.

In this method, work is carried out on the left control arm.

Positioning on the right side is reversed.

Note!
It is extremely important to the properties and service life of the bushings that they be placed in the correct position.

Removal:

Remove the front bushing 3.

Place the control arm in a workshop press. Use drift 999
7211 and socket 999 7210; see illustration.

Press out the bushing.

Installation:

Install the front bushing 4.





Note!
Be very precise when positioning the bushing in the control arm.

Install the front bushing, continued
Use drift 999 7211 and place the bushing in the drift. The
side of the bushing pin that has the smaller of the flat
surfaces is to be positioned against the screw hole. Loosely
fit a bushing screw through the drift hole.

Align the drift so that the screw is opposite the cast joint of
the control arm.

Use socket 999 7210. With the hole centered, turn the socket
in the same direction as the screw/cast joint.
Carefully press in the bushing until the threaded hole in the
bushing shaft can be seen through the socket hole.

Transfer the screw and tighten it so that its unthreaded
section covers the edge of the socket hole.

Press in the bushing until the unthreaded section of the
screw touches the upper edge of the hole. The bushing is
now in the correct position.

Removal:

Remove the rear bushing 8.





Place the control arm in a workshop press. Use socket 999
7209 and drift 999 7051.
Press out the bushing.

Installation:

Install the rear bushing 9.
Note! Be very precise when positioning the
bushing in the control arm.





The two recesses in the inner sleeve of the bushing are to
be positioned at a 75 degree angle in relation to the
longitudinal line; see illustration.

Mark the bushing and control arm with a marker.

Install the rear bushing, continued 10.
Place the control arm in a workshop press. Use socket 999
7209 and drift 999 7051.





Press in the bushing so that the distance between the plane
on the bushing inner sleeve and the machined surface of
the control arm is 40 mm.0 mm.
